I have suffered from intense, chronic panic attacks and general anxiety since I was a child, and doctors have tried a wide range of medicines w/out very much success. This drug has drastically reduced the frequency and severity of my panic attacks, as well as my overall anxiety. It's not a miracle drug, as I do still have troubles, but it has made them easily manageable! I do have odd dreams, but ...

I was having palpitations every single day from the afternoon up until I would fall asleep. This occurred for approx 4 months. It was becoming so severe that it distracted me from my work and caused anxiety, which made my palpitations even worse. I was prescribed propranolol, 10 mg once a day, which didn't seem to do much. When I was switched to 10 mg, 3 times a day, it worked wonders. I was no longer experiencing palpitations. Over the past month and a half, I only experienced palpitations twice on separate occasions for approx 5 mins at the most. It did take a few weeks to actually kick in, so be patient! Don't stop taking it just because you aren't immediately seeing any change. The wait was definitely worth itRead More Read Less

Suffered with severe migraines my entire life. Was getting 2-3 per week and was desperate. My blood pressure was also a bit high so doctor put me on 60 mg daily, taken at bedtime. Was a little tired at first but that tapered off. Did help with migraines, only getting maybe once a week now! Also having weird dreams and gaining weight (15 lbs. so far) but it's worth it not to be in pain all the time.

Suffered with severe migraines, treating symptoms only with little relief. Doctors tried me on several combinations for prevention & eliminated some for various side effects, finally settling on Propanalol long acting & Nortriptylin (old antidepressant) daily & haven't had any severe migraines in years! What a blessing!

My neurologist has given this for leg tremors. Has anyone taken this for leg tremors and has it worked? I have taken it for about two weeks now and have noticed a little change.

I'm taking only 10 mgs twice daily. I don't really feel any benefit from this med so far. I'm going to ask my doctor to increase my dosage. I'll write a review again then.

I must do formal and frequent, boardroom-type presentations and occasionally present to larger groups from a stage. I present technical subject matter, often to people who are also experts. Prior taking Propanolol, I found it nearly impossible to sit in these rooms. It was unbearable: panic would set in and I could not concentrate on anything but the need to get out of the room ASAP. Negative images of impending failure would wash over me like a shower. While I was mostly able to fake it, I was truly happy and calm only when completely alone. My doc prescribed a relatively small dose of Propanolol, only 5mg taken, sublingual, about 1.5 hours before presentations. I must say, the results have been near miraculous: exact same presentation settings, but no panic. Although it's the same settings, my unnerving, intense sense of self and the need to flee have changed to my maintaining interest and engaging in the presentation and people around me. Amazing. I have found that 2-hours, along with food, brings the best results. I think the small dose is due to the sublingual delivery. There is a bit of a rush within the first hour. But, an hour after that, I have an incredible sense of calm and confidence. Read More Read Less

I was given Propranolol for heart palpitations. It was ongoing for a few days due to anxiety and stress. I was given 10mg to be taken twice a day and three times a day for 3 days. I did not react well to this medication. Day two I started to feel drunk, and in another world. My eye slight was not right. I was unable to eat, I couldn't sleep, it caused serve panic, shaking, sweating. I stopped taking it after day 4. Stopping this medication suddenly can be unsafe for people with heart issues, but I had to stop taking it due to the side effects. It caused me horrible withdrawal even after 4 days of taking, I was even more sick after I had stopped. It's now day 6 after stopping, and I'm almost back to normal. I do not recommend this product for anyone with anxiety. Anxiety can be dealt with without ANY form of drugs no matter how serve it is. I know ofcourse this can work for some people, but my advice would to be VERY careful, start on a very small amount first. Read More Read Less

Listen, I've never taken any type of drug to help me cope with life on a daily basis. So I don't understand side effects for the life of me, figured I'd just deal with life as it came. I'm almost 30 years old, was given this drug for slight anxiety, once a month aura headache, high BP, and slight tremors. The first month I took it went great. Everything but high BP subsided, I was getting back on track. However, as the weeks have gone on I've noticed really strange hopeless type feelings, almost like waves of depression. Far from my normal self. I also have trouble wanting to do things because I'm so tired all the time. Fatigue in my muscles that I've pushed through just continues to get worse. I've been lowered to half dose, but still it's terrible. If you're on this drug, pay very close attention to your mood, mindset, and feelings, because your mentality can alter without notice.. I am a 40 yr old female who has had tremors since I was a child. As I became an adult the tremors have gotten REALLY bad.. At times my handwriting looked like I was an old person. I jolt and I can feel them coming and it hurts. If you have RLS imagine that feeling all over your body amplified! and all the time, Anywho, I found a doctor who said I want you to try propranolol it is a medication they use on patients with Parkinsons. I said ok, I was willing to try anything. I take 10mg 3x a day (which after 5 yrs I need to increase a smidge) I was not expecting it to work within 30 mins!!!! For the first time in 25 years I could have done brain surgery I was that steady. going from not really being able to hold things I would shake or jolt so bad to steady as could be. I haven't had any side effects... I will never give this medication up.. Read More Read Less

I have seen no change in my tremors with this drug. It's been almost 2 months now and will be stopping. This is the second time I've tried it, first time stayed on a year almost, with little to no change. Dr seems to like it a lot.

A week into taking this I got super dizzy, fatigued, and kept almost passing out. It had dropped my blood pressure and heart rate so low that the dr had a hard time finding them! Very scary. I wish I could've taken it longer to see if it worked, since a lot of people have good responses to it.

I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for years. My doctor is trying to slowly wean me off diazepam and put me on 10mg of propranolol 3X per day about 2 months ago. So far, I feel much less anxious than before. I am waiting to give it 5 stars since I don't know how it will work in the long term though so far, I am very satisfied.

Used in combination with diuretics. Effective but long-term (>5 years) use led to increasingly severe asthma limiting excercise and later just normal activity. Had to switch to a beta-blocker that affected the lungs less. Other side effects also increased over time including vivid dreams and mild hallucinations, but while interesting these did not create a problem and did stop after discontinuing use of Propranolol.

Prescribed due to overall high blood pressure, but also to treat varices in the stomach & esophagus due to liver problems (fibrosis - causing the increased pressure in the veins of the liver). If the varices go down on their own, no need for banding. Hoping liver heals enough to not take any meds & control through diet alone, but for now this seems to be working. Nice benefits of this drug for me include treatment for anxiety caused by stress, lower overall bp, prevention of migraines (which I've had for years), and a cure for my insomnia. I take it at bedtime & seems to help me sleep. I also have some CNS problems (hyperactive nervous system) which this also seems to address. All-in-all, as far as drugs go, this is well-suited for my mild-moderate conditions with no known bad side-effects so far.Read More Read Less
