I have insomnia and can't sleep without a sleeping pill. I'm also an addict so I'm not allowed any strong narcotics. Trazodone has worked very well for me. I've been taking it for over a year now. I started at 100mg and am now up to the max of 300mg/night. I will have to find another pill once this starts to become ineffective. But it puts me to sleep nicely and I don't feel anything linger the ne...

I have terrible insomnia and always searching for something to help me with this. I have tried this several times over the course of a year and did not like the way it made me feel the next day. Also did nothing for my sleep. Thought I would try it again one last time to see if it would be different this time. No. Couldn't sleep and next day I felt like I had a terrible hangover all day. I had no ...

This poison is toxic with awful side effects. It doesn’t help me sleep. I am also bipolar. I can’t safely drive a car after taking this toxic pill. Side effects are night sweats, brain fog and loss of memory, shakiness/tremors and chills all the time, agitation and restlessness and tinnitus, motor skills off, hard to walk or just function. Seeing my psychiatrist today and after a good try for 8 weeks, I’m done. Never ever had such debilitating side effects and I’ve been on a handful over 23 years. Do NOT take this unless you want to lay in the fetal position in agony. ??Read More Read Less

I took 150 mg for 8 years for insomnia I was cut off cold Turkey when my new pcp asked me if it was working.I told him it has become ineffective. For 9 months I cant go to sleep untl 3am ,wake up at 6am like clock work with a mild headache and nervous. The only thing that helps is to get out of bed and drink coffee. When I am sleeping I have constant vidid dreams .I feel like I'm awake during the 3 hours I am sleeping .My new pcp told me I have anti depressant discontinuation syndrome, it can last up to a year since I took it so long.My life has been hell for 9 months. My memory is shot. This drug is poison, buyer beware of the consequences when you stop taking it.Read More Read Less

I’ve used this medication for over 20 yrs, and it is the only one that has worked for me for my depression and helps me sleep at night. I take 300 mg every night and sleep wonderfully. Be sure to lay down right after taking it because it kicks in quickly.

I have PTSD, severe anxiety and some depression. I take it before I sleep. Wait 15 or so min then I lay down..I fall asleep for a bit then I wake up through the night to the point of getting up outta bed. I go to sleep when I lay back down but then it's causing me to sleep through my alarm. Today I didn't wake up til 12.45pm and I was suppose to be at work at 8 luckily I work for myself so I can't reschedule.

Trazodone has been a life saver for me. Most of my life (over 70) I have had trouble sleeping. I am a night person and really need some thing to help me go to sleep. Usually 6 hours sleep works for me. I have not had any size effects with Trazodone..

Just as soon as I started taking trazodone I began experiencing the associated side effects. Dizziness, blurred vision, rapid heart beat, weakness and fatigue. This drug made me feel like I was going to die. I’m glad that it does help many others, but in my case, I feel horrible. I even wound up in the emergency room.

This has signifantly enhanced my quality of life. I had trouble with waking up multiple times during the night, still feeling tired in the morning, and feeling extremely sleepy in the afternoons. My doc prescribed 50 mg of Trazondone. I started out with 25 mg. The first night I slept a solid 11 hours and had very intense dreams. I felt a bit groggy the next day, but took it again the following night, slept abou 9 hours, had some more intense dreams, but woke up energetic and refreshed the next day. After a few weeks I went up to the full 50 mg and I've been sleeping a lot better overall (still wake up at night occasionally), have more energy and I rarely need a nap in the afternoons. In general my mood is much improved as well. I have read that Trazodone enhances deep sleep without affecting REM. I think enhancement of deep sleep is why I feel so much better. My dreams have calmed down some. but they are still more intense than they were. I don't mind-- my dreams are often entertaining. Read More Read Less

Should be banned and not given to anyone 18-90 years old. Was on this for awhile and other psych medications for depression and anxiety. A good diet and daily exercise will solve a lot of your issues instead of drugs that make others richer while you suffer. It’s the truth. Good luck

50mg nightly did nothing for me. 100mg worked sort of, but not a full night's sleep. 150mg worked but I'd wake up feeling like I had a hangover from drinking. That is where I stopped thking it.

It’s 4:25 am, Trazodone does not make me sleepy. It does not work if taken regularly, or "as needed for insomnia".

I've struggled with sleep issues most of my adult life. Came across some online info that called my disorder sleep anxiety which exactly described my issue. Was prescribed 50 mg a few days ago and so far it's done nothing for me. Will talk to doctor about maybe going with a higher dose.

I went to my primary doctor complaining that insomnia had become so bad that I felt run-down and depressed during many days. He turned it around and said I had depression, which then caused insomnia. We argued a bit and then agreed it's a chicken-and-egg dilemma but held firm that depression is probably the root cause. He prescribed 50mg/day for me. I found it reliably puts me to sleep within an hour - a great improvement. I may wake up a few hours later but having a snack, combined with the drug still in my system, I get back to sleep, and may have to have another snack still later (toward dawn). I still have to spend more hours in bed than most people in order to get my 8 hours of actual sleep and feel like getting up. The downside of the drug for me is some very noticeable cognitive impairment during the day (poor memory, absent-mindedness, "brain fog", even when feeling alert). Because of that side effect I went from 50mg to 25mg and my sleep was still helped noticeably. I went off it completely for a month as an experiment and didn't notice an improvement in cognition, but when I started taking it again the impairment definitely increased, so probably I just didn't notice that my cognition gradually improved over the month, just as my insomnia gradually got worse again. I take 200mg bupropion SR in the morning to help wake me up and lift me out of the fog. Overall, trazodone does help alleviate my insomnia and is worth taking, even though it lowers my IQ by 5-10 points during the day. I'm retired so I don't have to be very smart anymore now but do need nice deep sleeps with engaging dreams, as trazodone provides.Read More Read Less

I agree with the person who suggested taking this drug and waiting a little while before going to bed. It takes me about 20 minutes to feel the effects and that gives me time to prepare for going to sleep. I also agree not to take Trazodone and wait too long before sleep, it seems that there is a 'window' of time that it is most effective. Use it as I do and I think you will find results. I've been on the drug 10+ years maybe closer to 20 years. My best to everyone.

My doctor prescribed me 100mg of Trazodone to help me get to sleep, and this worked tremendously! About 30 minutes after taking it I am knocked out. I wake up feeling refreshed most days. I take this in combination with 300mg of Buproprion for my depression.
