To all of you who are thinking of stopping the medication because of weight gain, feeling like a zombie, those terrible nightmares, lack of sex drive, etc... I too have had all of these side effects. Before starting treatment on Remeron coupled with Lexapro (after trying every other drug on the market and suffering for 5+ years) I truly was ready to die. I had no will to live, I was angry at every...

I've been on 30mg generic Mirtazipine for about 2 years after a depressive event. I used to think that I just didn't need much sleep and would average between 4 and 6 hours of very light sleep each night. With the onset of my depression I was getting only 2-3 hours of sleep each night. My Dr started me on 30mg and the first night I slept for 16 hours straight. Fortunately this was on a weekend and the next night I again slept for over 12 hours. My depression was linked to a stressful event and I have recovered from that so I don't know what part the remeron played in my recovery but I love the change it has made in my sleep pattern. I can depend on the 30mg to give me a sound 8 hours of sleep each night. I set the alarm on my phone to remind me each evening at 7:30 to take the med. About 2 hours later I am feeling sleepy and easily fall asleep without tossing and turning or my mind racing. I especially like that if I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I can quickly go back to sleep. When I get up at 6:00 in the morning I can still feel the effect of the med but by 7:30 the effects have completely worn off and I am clear-headed the rest of the day and never feel drowsy after lunch. For me remeron has worked wonderfully to give me a normal sleep pattern and no side effects of weight gain. I do exercise daily and haven't changed my eating habits since starting remeron. Great drug in my opinionRead More Read Less

Always take as prescribed! preferably over the weekend, I found that a full dose was much too strong slept into the afternoon. After talking w/ my Doctor a half of pill was recommended.

I have been on remeron 15 mg for a week, my anxiety has lessened, no panic, and i feel calmer. I'm still waking up 4-5 times / night, but plan on increasing 1/4 tab this week. My weight jumped 2 lbs for no reason after 2 nights, so I've added more celery, broccoli and green tea. I have no cravings or increased appetite-thanks to 300 mg 5-HTP in the am- a supplement you can get in health food stores in 50 & 100 mg doses. No further weight gain since watching what I eat- entirely worth it for my "anxious insomnia" and panic attacks. Try 5-HTP for cravings and appetite,MIT works.Read More Read Less

I have tried several different antidepressants, with not much satisfaction for 10 years. Then 4 years ago, my doctor gave me a combination of mirtazapine and citalopram. It has worked well for me now for 4 years.

I am age 74, Male. I had some traumas back in 1997, and had to be on Ativan, Zoloft, Clonazapam, Remeron, Lexapro, etc.(not all at the same time) trying to get stabilized I had panic attacks and sleep problems often for 10 years. Finally in 2010, my doctor prescribed a combination of Remeron 30 mg, and Celexa 20 mg. That has worked very well now for 4 years. I sleep well, and have mild anxiety attacks maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I carry a Rx of Lorazapam .5 mg with me all the time to stop a panic attack if needed, but rarely have to take it. My appetite is good, I am 5'10" and weigh 130 lbs. I have tried to taper off of my meds very slowly several times, but always had bad panic attacks when meds got down to about half. So I guess it is a necessity for me. And No, I have never used alcohol or tobacco, or any other substance abuse. And I have been a vegetarian all my life. Read More Read Less

This medication made me very sleepy, to the point that I could sleep 14 hours on 7.5 mgs, and be dragging for another 4 or 5 hours. I would perk up around dinner time and then start all over two hours later. Made the depression worse to the point that I was planning a suicide. Stopped taking it two days ago, still feel depressed, but I am not going to kill myself.

This drug immediately gave me terrible nightmares taking me back into very violent times in my life. I experienced aches and pains throughout my body. I felt zombie like. My psychiatrist immediately took me off it.

My dad is 94. The Nursing Fac. just started him on Remeron 7.5 mg daily for appetite. He has chronic kidney disease Stage III, and has very low BP. He has become very sleepy and groggy, and has had a bad dream and panic attack. We think he should be taken off this. Can it be done gradually or all at once? His mental capacity has seemed to diminish for even small things, could this be a cause?

I've been taking Remeron for a yr and a half and it has really worked for me. I am taking it for depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Helps well with all three I went from about 1 panic attact a week to one or two at year. I started taking 15mg but was still having some symptoms and asked my dr to up my dose a little so I am now taking 30 mg and very please. I did have strange dreams a lot at first now they are occasional. I did gain weight but seeing that I was 92 pounds(I am 5'7) this was a good side effect. I do sometime eat in the middle of the night and not really remember it but I don't really care about that I find it funny. I am very pleased with the results and continue to take itRead More Read Less

I started with 15mg for my appetite, I have none. Although it did help, the side effects were not good. Blackouts, irritability, severe panic attacks. Was then increased to 30mg, my appetite went away again, and side affects increased. Now I need to be tapered off and try something different.

DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE!!! It worked initially, but then after a month the side effects were awful. I was a zombie and felt completely bizarre and out of reality. I kept telling my psychiatrist that I felt very weird and uncomfortable and she just blew it off. It puts you to sleep very fast, but chemically it is similar to dipenhydramine, and it lasts a LONG time. This medication was an absolute nightmare for me. I finally found out from my PSY-D that MANY patients have lots of problems with Remeron and do not tolerate it well. It took over a month after discontinuing this drug to feel normal again. You will snore, have intense munchies, and feel like you have had a lobotomy on this drug. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!Read More Read Less

After trying most SSIR's on the market, between 2000-2010, Remeron has proven to be the best and only drug I can tolerate and rely on for acceptable and sufficent relief from: 1. Depression, 2. Major Depressive Episodes, 3. PTSD and 4. Nausea associated with anxiety. I had horrible side effects from Buspar, Wellbutrin, Xanax, Prozac & Zoloft. I believe this drug is safe, the side effects are actually minimal, and it's an overall superior drug in this class. It has subsided suicidal thoughts. Slight weight gain is annoying but I wouldn't trade it less effective & more commonly prescribed drugs. Remeron is an older (tried and true) drug, and not widely precribed anymore which I think is a shame, considering it's effectiveness. It doesn't need a 'booster' drug and may help bring back an appetite to those who suffer from depression/anxiety related episodes. It's off label use for PTSD has had a mild (good) effect on me but not significant enough to use for that purpose alone. Best wishes to those wanting relief, who need & deserve relief, and try it based on this recommendation, coming from over a decade of experience with taking the small 30 mg. pill at bedtime - which also helps insomnia!Read More Read Less
