I've used Clartin several times for my 5 year old. It is very effective for her itchy throat, post-nasal drip and common cold/allergy symptoms. The response time is quick; about an hour. The only change in her actions or personality would be perhaps a little sleepiness. I have given this to her for a couple of years now. Additionally, it works very well with prescription drugs and other ove...

I chose this product because it's easy to convince my 4 year old son that it's candy. He's been sneezy and congested off and on for 2 weeks now. I've noticed that EVERY time I give him a Claritin, he has a terrible day at school. His behavior is horrible, his teacher says he becomes a "terror" and I can honestly say that I don't even recognize my own son after he takes it. Today makes the 4th time this has happened and I finally put two and two together. It's the medicine! I will definitely stop giving him Claritin. Read More Read Less

My daughter, 12 yrs old, recently developed allergies. The doctor told us to pick up Claritin (over the counter) for children and give her the 2tbsp/day dose recommended for children her age. Within 3-4 days we noticed involuntary twitching in the right side of her neck. The next day it became more frequent and noticeable (her head tilted and eyes shut while the twitching happened). At first we didn't understand why it was happening. We decided to stop the Claritin dose and observe her (and take her to the doc only if it did not stop in a week). Sure enough the twitching reduced and eventually went away after a week or so after we stopped giving her Claritin! I was looking online for info/cases linking Claritin to twitching. I found a couple of websites that claimed that Claritin was NOT linked to twitching! There is no warning on the label to make patients aware of such side effects either.Read More Read Less

My wife and I have been Claritin/Loratadine users for years. We got our three-year old daughter some Children's Claritin and over five days of use her temperament became agressive, she became uncharacteristically defiant, ignored us, and generally acted like a different person. My wife Googled "Claritin behavior changes"--try it; you will find a slew of similar stories. The study on the Claritin website has no comment on behavior, and there are no side effects listed on the label. The Claritin website and the parent company Schering Plough have no email address for comments or correspondence regarding their products.Read More Read Less
