I have been on Butrans for about 6 weeks now starting at 5mcg every 7days and increasing once a week up to 15mcg. I have just been increased to 30mcg to try to control my pain levels. I find it works great but wasnt quite enough for me without still having to take my breakthrough meds every 4 hrs that is the reason for the increase so here's hoping that the increase helps. the tape sticks great bu...

My comments and star rating concerns the generic patch by TEVA. I have been on Butrans for 3-5 years. For itching, when I first started the drug, I went to the manufacturer's website and found the tip to use Flonase under the patch when you first put it on. The name brand stays on, and the Flonase breaks the rash cycle that hot water on the patch starts. The name brand has good adhesion to the sk...

Been on Butrans for 3 years. Teva like others say will not stay attached. Been using waterproof bandages to get it to stick only to find out it sticks to the bandage and not the skin. Took one off this morning and have a bright red patch while it doesnâ??t feel infected it causes serious issues with my skin. On another occasion when taking the patch off there was this substance yellow in color like a cottage cheese look like the medicine was not making it into my body. Pain seems to only be relieved for a day or two and then have to suffer Rey of week. I thought generic had to work like name brand but guess quality control is not an issue with TevaRead More Read Less

I simply wanted to reiterate what others have said in their reviews. I started the patch about a year ago. It worked well then they switched me to the generic. It absolutely will not adhere for more than a day or two, and it therefore does not work for me. Depressing.

The new generic patches made by TEVA will NOT stay on. They don't adhere well in the first place, so there is not good contact with the skin. They won't stick smoothly, constantly fall off...and the lettering is huge! I don't want to advertise my medical treatment like a tattoo! Some privacy, please.

The name brand Butrans patches and the generic patches that were made from the same type of material as the Butrans patches worked great! They relieved my pain and stayed on. My pharmacy, to cut costs, started buying generic patches from TEVA. They are awful! The TEVA patches start coming off within the second day of use. I now have to buy clear wound bandages to hold the crappy TEVA patch on for the rest of the week. I have to cut the TEVA patch down so that it will fit under the clear bandage. It's a real pain to have to do all of this! Read More Read Less

Beware of the Teva 15 patch. Won't stay on. Had to keep putting it back on with silk tape. Pain came back. Going back to Butrans, makes me itch at the site, but worth it.

I have been using 20 mg Butrans patch for years and was pleased to get rid of the oxycodone. I have Norco 10/325 for breakthrough pain, but with the patch it was wonderful to finally wake up and be able to move in the morning. I have RA, stage 3 kidney disease, and suffer from injuries from three vehicle accidents. The patch causes itching, reddness and swelling but it is worth dealing with. However, my doctor recently changed me to the new generic Butrans patch and they are terrible! First of all, they don't stick for very long. You have to cover them with a tagament patch. But worst of all, I don't think the drug is being delivered correctly either. My pain has been skyrocketing, so badly I had to go to emergency. My son's girlfriend thought I was having a heart attack. No heart attack, I told her, just really sharp pain. I thought something really bad was wrong and then I remembered that this was what it was like before my pain management. How spoiled I have been! I can't live like that again for sure. I am going to do everything I can to get the regular non-generic patch back as soon as possible, even though it will cost me $90.00 more per month. Watch out for the generic Butrans patch!!Read More Read Less

BEWARE of the generic Buprenorphine 20mcg patch by TEVA. Husband has been on Butrans 20mcg for several years with great results. After 4 days on the insurance required generic TEVA patch, he started having withdrawal symptoms, along with a severe increase in pain. He is also on low-dose steroids and had to increase his dose, plus take oral pain medication while on this patch. Switched back to the name-brand Butrans patch and within 3 days his pain level was back to normal, he was able to decrease his steroid dosage, and stop the oral pain medicine. However due to the stress of dealing with the worthless TEVA patch and the increase in steroid dosage, his immune function bottomed out and he is now left dealing with a bad case of cellulitus. I've been on so many different narcotic medications that I wanted off of them. I was put on Suboxone to wean my off my other meds and then put on the "Bup" patch 10mcg. It did NOT work. I woke up every morning in severe withdrawals and had to take 1mg/0.5mg of suboxone to make me feel better. As far as a pain med, I got little relief with the patch. The patch itself stuck pretty good, but I had to put a clear breathable film dressing over it after a couple of days. It lasted for the 7 days without peeling off. I did not like the patch at all!! I'm going back to the pain clinic this week and seeing if I need a higher dose, or if there's something else I can take to treat my chronic pain. I might be to tolerant to opiates and thus this dose not working too good. We will see what the doctor says. I much rather be on the pills than wearing a patch......Read More Read Less

I've been receiving treatment for FMS and have been on the 10 patch for 4 years now. It's still effective and my stable of doctors have cut the vicodin consumption to zero. I had Gastric Bypass and am not absorbing. This bypasses the GI tract and works great!

Because it releases small amounts over time it works better for pain relief. No highs or lows and is great for sleeping through the night.

Suboxone works very well. I started with the tabs but my doc had me try the film and i have not switched back yet. THe film dissolves much faster and seems to absorb better into blood stream making it stronger. I'm gonna be switched from drug tolerance to chronic pain soon and be put on the patch with a few strips extra to ease into it. I think this is the best option out there now for pain or just getting off opiates all together. Good luck everyone!

I have been on Butrans 5mcg now for almost 4 weeks. It is somewhat effective, but not quite strong enough, so I will see if the doctor will boost it up on Monday. It sticks well, but I can't really use it when I swim. I have both hips replaced and I was injured in the military. I deal with chronic pain every day and exercise in water helps control some of the pain. I just wish the patches were waterproof. I applaud anyone who can maintain a good lifestyle with the lowest dose.

You may be taking to many percocet because the buprenorphine binds to certain opioid receptors so strongly it blockades those specific receptors, and other opioid agonist then are unable to bind to the 100% of the receptors they normally would diminishing effect of that specific opioid agonists. But buprenorphine is by far less dangerous because of its ceiling effect and most the time the relief seems to last days not hours and its a complete opioid agonist but its stronger than morphine considerably and outlasts it, with out near as much danger.
