My husband was in the ICU for 11 days and then a nursing home due to this horrible disease. I was told he wouldn't live more than a month or two. A wonderful young doctor worked to get coverage for the #7,000 monthly charge and got Esbriet for him. It has been six months and he has lost weight, but has tolerated the drug well and the fibrosis hasn't progressed further. We are both very happy with...

I have been taking this drug for 2 yrs and have felt lousy. I am now only taking 4, could not handle any more than that. I have not been tested but I am short of breath more and want to sleep all the time. Use oxygen mostly at night. Doctor said NO to stopping so will continue because I am afraid of the outcome of stopping. Other medicine may be also causing my weakness

I have been taking esbriet for 5 years, loss of weight, do not feel well if I do not eat enough but i have loss of appetite, thinning hair and very sleepy. I also have heart disease and I am 86. Have to continue to take, afraid to stop. Just now developed cough but esbriet must be working for me. My younger brother died after 8 months being diagnosed so I feel very fortunate that espriet must be working for me even though I hate it.

I am a 79 year old male and was diagnosed Jan 2018. I have been on Esbriet for over six months and now take 1 801mg tab 3x per day with food. I do feel tired, lack of appetite, lost some weight and stomach distress. I have been to Pulmonary Rehab and now exercise with oxygen 2-3 times weekly, watch my diet and try to lead a productive daily routine. At the 6 month pulmonary evaluation there was no significant change. I take Omeprazole 20mg every other day to control the GIRD. I see a MH Counselor monthly to help maintain my positive outlook.Read More Read Less

I started taking this medicine about a month ago and I had the most horrible heartburn ever nothing would cure it. When it was at its worst I threw it all up and was almost immediately cured. I have put on 7 lb while trying to eat as healthy as possible because you have to have food with every pill I had to come off of three pills a day and go back to one pill a day. That still did not work for me I had headaches nausea throwing up heartburn, no energy so I got off of it for one day to see how I would do I felt totally fine I am going to stay off of it for a while see what happens and then go back on it later.Read More Read Less

Have been on Esbriet since 1/2015. On oxygen 24/7. 2 liters. Diagnosed in early 2014. Heavy coughing spells multiple times a day, both dry and productive, could not take 1 flight of stairs without stopping 2-3 times, sleeping in sitting position. 1st 6 minute walk on room air only 689 feet with oxygen in mid 80's. 1st PFT showed 60% lung capacity. 2nd PFT 6 months on Esbriet showed slight improvement. the 3rd one year, no change. But no regression. 6 minute walk on room air in 12/2016 1750 feet with oxygen in mid 80's but reached 93 in 45 seconds. Can take stairs without resting but still must sleep in sitting position. Lost weight (intentionally) and some hair loss/thinning. No other real side effects that I can detect or that have an impact. I work, drive and go to the gum as well as pulmonary rehab. Coughing spells still occur but far less frequent and not as severe. I think Esbriet, rehab, weight loss, diet, exercise all have helped.Read More Read Less

MY HUSBAND STARTED ESBRIET OVER 1 YEAR AND PRIOR TO STARTING HE HAD A COUGH SO BAD THAT I THOUGHT HE WOULD PASS OUT. THE COUGH HAS ALL BUT STOPPED. LUNG FUNCTIONS ARE STABLE HOWEVER HE HAS DONE WELL. TRYING TO FIND A NEW PATIENT ASSISTANCE FUND. THE CARING VOICE JUST SENT A LETTER THAT THE WOULD NO LONG COVER IN 2017. NO WAY WE COULD PAY OUT OF POCKET.

I took my first pill in the evening and in the morning I could hardly move, joint pain was so painful, sick to my stomach, headache, frequent urination, and night sweating, plus other symptoms. I continue taking one per meal for two more days and couldn't stand what they were doing to my body. The syymptoms got worse instead of better. Dr. office to cut back one pill a day but I decided to go off them completely and after 3 days I still have symptoms mostly body aches night sweating and colored urine. I will not take any more of these.Read More Read Less

Have been on Esbriet for 1 year. Have to quit taking due to cost. Experienced nausea, upset stomach, tiredness among other side effects. Hope cost gets under control. Lots of desperate people need it.

I just started a few weeks ago. I feel nausea, like "morning sickness." Also, my taste for food is gone. I don't yet know its effectiveness; a CT scan in a few months will determine for me whether I stay on this medication.

No complaints thus far. No significant side effects. However, can not reliably comment on "effectiveness" because there is no way of knowing if the progress of the disease has been slowed.
