Had infusion IV at VA last week and have had NO side effects or reactions during these very few days. I am Diabetic and Bone Scan and Test showed Osteoporosis in 1998 and again this year, I will update in about a month as to any side effects that I might encounter, if any.

My second dose of Zometa caused a severe allergic reaction of hives at the injection site and other body parts. I have bone and joint pain, especially in my hip.My right side is very weak. This drug has been my worst nightmare. Even after 6 months, the pain persist. I've contacted FDA concerning this drug.

No one told me what to expect. I was in bed five days two hours after the infusion.shivering , extremely cold, headache. Could not pull my self together, nausea just bile. Followed by limb pain welts, swollen face and eyes. Red sore eyes, rosacea constantly. Effected my eye sight drastically.neck and ear ache. Runny nose. Dropsy/face. Fatigue gums swelling. Dry scaly skin. Hair thinning.trouble with weight. Spots appearing first purply red then turning brown all over my body itching. This is the worst drug on earth. Had some one taken the time to explain how this terrible infusion can ruin your life, I would never have had this infusion. I felt no benefit from the infusion only a life changing effects to my whole body. I have leg, feet and arm numbness and cramps ever night. Consistently needing to urinate. Shaking limbs and pain like you cannot imagine.. It should be banned.. It was my first one back in July last year. I will never ever have further zoledronic acid infusion.. the side effects are nothing short of horrendous and life changing. You should be told of the consequences beforehand and be given the choice after hearing what are the negatives . It can cause heart failure/strokes.. I feel like my life is ruined after after only one infusion. I repeat , I will refuse this year's infusion... A terrible life changing experience Read More Read Less

Diagnosed with breast cancer at age 52 stage 3 ER+. Also have osteoporosis. Had my 1st zoledronic acid intravenous 1 year ago without issues but 6 months later I had my 2nd zoledronic intravenous & about 3 weeks later I suddenly developped shooting hip/leg pains. My jawbone became more sensitive. Also had a mysterious skin rash. Discussed it with my oncologist who thinks it's not related to zoledronic acid although the pain is constant. I went to my dentist 11 days ago he said my teeth have deteriorated quickly in last 6 months & a molar is cracked in half ! I never had problems with my teeth & maintain good oral hygiene. 6 months ago they were fine. My dentist said he may have to remove my cracked molar but refuses to do it while I'm on zoledronic acid cause any open wound can cause serious dental issues in the jawbone(necrosis...infections ect). I believe the zoledronic acid worsens my osteoporosis & triggered severe joint/bone pains it also damaged my teeths! I am scheduled to have my 3rd zoledronic acid intravenous next Friday at hospital but tomorrow I'll phone the oncology nurse and cancel it...I'm voluntarily getting off this dynamite drug although my oncologist will be agaisn't my decision but I'll let him talk. I'm sincerely honest.Read More Read Less

I had my first infusion of Zoledronic Acid over 5 years ago. I experienced hair loss, tinnitus, muscle aches and pain, fatigue, blurry vision, glaucoma and chronic diarrhea. The infusion had helped my osteopenia. The diarrhea, tinnitus, hair loss and vision problems still continue. In February 2023, my Rheumatologist convinced me to have another infusion. That was the worst mistake I have ever made. Six months later, the chronic diarrhea has worsened. I cannot leave the house. The muscle aches and pains are so bad that it is difficult to get out of bed in the morning. I was at the point where I could walk a mile a day, and the diarrhea was not as frequent. I do not care about osteoporosis when I cannot even move or leave the house because of diarrhea several times a day. I will never have a zoledronic acid infusion again. The terrible side effects will probably remain with me the rest of my life. I am 76 years old.Read More Read Less

I have experienced every reaction in the list I am between 6 and 7months and still suffering. I would not recommend this product, no way to gage the reactions and no way to stop them. Its long term and no way out of the the side effects!!!!! Hate what is going on in my body and mind. I have never felt this messed up.

If your healthcare provider recommends this drug, run! SIDE EFFECTS ARE HORRIBLE. I have been on this for a month and I have to say that I think their sample set during the clinical trial must have been skewed. Go to any website where actual people can leave reviews and you will see that loads of people have "rare" side effects. I have neck pain, jaw pain, bone pain in my left foot that is so bad I have to walk with crutches, dehydration, eye pain, and food tastes like metal. I was perfectly healthy apart from osteoporosis diagnosis in both hips. No fractures, no osteoporosis in spine. Now I am in constant pain and can't stand or walk. They should take this off the market.Read More Read Less

Six weeks out, I have paralyzed diaphragm pushed up against my lungs rendering breathing difficult (panting), exhaustion, difficulty sleeping, pain along the phrenic nerve (left shoulder/neck), brain fog, constipation, shaky, kidney pain, shuffling not walking, etc. Be especially careful if you have pre-existing conditions. Warnings say the effects may be permanent.

This treatment has and still is making my teeth break and crumble even after 18 months after the 5th infusion. I refused to have the final one. My left leg bone below the knee has also bent causing half knock knee on the left side. Cancer consultant say this drug hasn't caused it but I beg to differ. I would lie in bed at night trying to deal with the pain of my muscles spasming and twisting my left leg bone and knee was unbearable and lasted for hours. This drug shouldn't be used especially on people who have other problems especially neutral tube defects Imo. I feel I've been used as a guinea pig to see what the outcome of using this drug would be. Read More Read Less

I don't know if it has worked for me, I only know that after having the infusion, that night my body was in intense pain and I developed a bad kidney infection. I was given antibiotics to fight the infection. It's been over two weeks and I'm still NOT well. I have spent most of that time in bed. I am weak, tired and with no energy. Before the infusion I had gone for my annual physical, and I was fine. Now I wonder if I'll ever get my strength back. I don't recommend it!

I had this treatment done yesterday. I was told that it would keep the calcium in my bones, so I thought it would be a good thing. Last night was awful. I thought I was dying. My chest hurt, I thought I was having a heart attack! I had acid reflux all night. I had fever, chills. My whole body hurt. I had nausea and vomiting. Was going to the bathroom about every thirty minutes. My body felt like it weighed a ton! I had to struggle to make it to the bathroom. I would not have chosen to have this treatment if I had known how sick it would make me! I was told to take Ibuprofen, what a joke! Now I know! I will not be having a second or a third treatment! The side effects are scary!Read More Read Less

I only had it three days ago so have no idea if it works. What I can say is it’s the worst pain I’ve ever had. I feel as if someone is inside my skeleton paring at it with a knife. I can hardly stand and walking nearly impossible. And the doctors say take paracetamol - are they kidding? I keep being told that it’s rare to experience a reaction like this so it’s a relief to find this website and hear of similar tales.

Since having been given this zolodronic bone treatment I have bad the continuing worst bone pain imaginable. My knees and ankles constantly give me pain, the knees and ankles are the worst as I can't even weight bare on them. My left knee has changed position and my right knee grinds and crunches when I try and move. Walking has become a nightmare and before having being prescribed this I got around easily without pain in my knees. I have teeth that have crumbled and one is shattered but I refuse to have it removed in fear of developing jaw necrosis. The zolodronic infusions were stopped for about 18 months during the Covid pandemic and the full course wasnt given after as they never gave me the last infusion. I'm now on the waiting list for knee surgery, which I dread, as I don't know what this drug had done too my bones and if they'll heal properly. Has anyone else had these experiences?Read More Read Less

Dat two had very painful joints the had a very painful left eye which turned out to be inflammation behind the eye. Suffered from severe neck and head pain. Day 6 have severe neck and head pain also severe hand pain. Wake up during the night with neck and head pain, so tired. What pain what pain will I experience on day seven. Was told I am suffering from rare side effects. The only person I received great care from was the eye Consultant, now my eye is much improved. I also suffer from dizziness. Doctors don’t seem to care, nor do the infusion team. Feel very alone with this condition. I have been told I cannot have this treatment again because of side effects. Thea drug seems to attack every part of the body and I wonder when will it end!!Read More Read Less

After both ankles sustained compound fractures simultaneously 5 years ago, I began treatment for osteoporosis at age 71. I did 1 year of bi-monthly Prolia injections; 1 year of Evenity monthly injections, all with no immediate or long-term side effects. Now at age 75, my Dr. recommended the once a year Reclast. My bone density is not due until November '22. I have been walking well, drove myself to the infusion center and drove myself home with no problems. But less than 12 hours later, I awoke with severe hip, thigh, buttocks, leg and ankle pain, ALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY! I could barely roll over to get out of bed! It was hard to distinguish joint pain from muscle pain from bone pain! This is finishing up day 5 post-infusion and I have to use a walker to get around my home, and have to sit to shower as I can't stand alone as the pain is so intense. Luckily my home is already handicapped accessible in bathrooms, doorways, and halls, so I can maneuver a wheel chair if it, God forbid, becomes necessary. There are no words to "cleanly" express how angry, disappointed and frustrated I am...I trusted a good doctor with my bone health, and I am now certain that I will be worse off than before this injection....NEVER AGAIN!Read More Read Less
