Pain management with Morphine is a very sore subject. After a decade of hurting. Came to realize the treatment is just as bad as the issue. Can see this in cases of severe cancers or massive trauma related pain. and of course cardiac. I feel the long term use of this drug benefits no one.

I suffer from chronic/severe pain from DDD and arthitis for over 30-years. I've had three operations L-4,5 and a fourth is due. The Doctor also recommends operating T5-6 after three trips to the emergency room 2007-2008. I was on Fentanyl-75 patches two/48 hours, Oxycontin oral 15 mg as needed and Toridol. Fentanyl eventually caused blackouts every day--very scary--unlike nodding off, so they switched to Embeda two 3.2 caps until it was recalled or pulled. I started Avinza oral 75/mg. It lasted between 4-10 hrs tops, but it worked so well I never realized how much pain I was tolerating with Embeda. My Doc doubled the dose of Avinza, over the phone, about 3-days into the script. He tried to increase the dosage to two-90/mg caps/day but the insurance denied it saying it's a 24hr cap. While reading these reviews I am surprised how many people are taking more than one Avinza/day. Now I'm on MS Conton 100/mg two/day along with my usual Clonazepam, Cyclobenzaprine, Tizanidine, Hydrocodone-APAP-7.5/750,Diazepam,Trazodone,Arthrotec and water pills. The Avinza caused sweats-nasty! but the MS Conton does too.Read More Read Less

I have tried a number of pain medications, including Vicodin and Oxycontin. Avinza is the first medication that I found that works on the pain without making me sleepy orfeel "drugged." Unfortunately, it has become prohibitedly expensive so I will be looking to replace it with a less expensive drup.

I am taking 60mg and would like to reduce the dose. I tried to reduce it on my own and went into withdrawal. If I had known it was this addictive,I never would have started it. It does help the pain I

I have had extreme pain for the last four years due to nerve damage at my L-5/S-1 nerve root. I began taking Avinza about six months ago and it has allowed me to move around throughout the day without severe pain. I have noticed that I have frequent involuntary muscle movements in my legs, this was stated as one of the possible side effects. Even with the muscle movements, Avinza has allowed me to function more normally during the day, but I must take other pain medication at night to be able to rest comfortably.Read More Read Less

Following three failed back surgeries in 1987,1989 & 1994,, I was left with unbearable chronic pain. For almost ten years, I took methadone. It worked but not well. Around 2004, I began taking Avinza, 120mg. I'm convinced that without Avinza, I would have had to quit work and go on disability. For me, it's been a miracle drug.

Drug works well for my back pain but does not last the 12 hours it's suppose to even with higher dosages. But the cost for this drug is outrageous.

having spent the last 15 years dealing with a barage of orthopedic health care problems ending with an above the knee amputation, I have undergone so many extremely painful procedures and becoming totally opiate dependant I have found Avinza to be the best base line pain med.I have tried the fentanyl patches the ms contin, tghe oxycontins, and none seem to work as well at keeping me out of withdrawls, and making the pain bearable. It lasts 24 hours with the full dosage kicking in for the first 12 then it loses a bite of its effectiveness, but if you take it when you first wake up you are awake and active for the 12 hours and by the time it is wearing off I'm generally going to sleep. When the doctor prescribes the drug one is given the option of taking 2 at once or one every twelve hours. I prefer the 2 at once protocal so I have the maximum effectiveness when I am up and need more relief.Read More Read Less

I have severe psoriatic Arthritis, psoriasis, and chronic pain from a motorcycle injury. Tolerance to other meds led me to this one. I'vbe used with oxycodone to help. It has been the only one that lasts long enough that I don't have to constantly take pills.

have had 2 back surgerys and this helps to control the pain during the day without feeling high. at night i still need the percocet and soma but this med is great has helped me to be able to move without so much pain. it gives such a slow release of dosage that you get a better sustained relief of the pain.
