Pain management with Morphine is a very sore subject. After a decade of hurting. Came to realize the treatment is just as bad as the issue. Can see this in cases of severe cancers or massive trauma related pain. and of course cardiac. I feel the long term use of this drug benefits no one.

I was on Avinza for my chronic back pain and been through a lot of medications. This medication worked very well for all most a year and then I grew a tolerance. But while I was on it it worked excellent! I started out with 90 mg. and then went to 120 mg. about 1 month after that. I would recommend to giving this medication a try. Good luck with all those who deal with chronic pain!

After a year on 90mg Avinza with MSIR 15mg for breakthrough pain, I am working full time, exercising and living a more active life than most people. It doesn't not impair me, coupled with a SCS, i live pretty good. I spent YEARS on minimally effective low dose and effectiveness narcotics, NSAIDS, etc.,etc., and a dump truck load of Ultram. Not any more. I finally found a sharp, caring and inventive pain Dr. and have been in pretty good shape for over a year. Gen. Practice Drs. like to prescribe tons of meds that even they know won't work but want to quiet you down, keeps them out of DEA questions. This does more harm than good and certainly dampens your enthusiasm for retaking your life. I think Avinza-C is pretty damned effective and has helped me immensely. I work in a very high end technical position requiring alot of brainpower, and feel 10x more alert on avinza than ever did on the junk meds.Read More Read Less

Doctor's have tried all other pain medications, from the non narcotic, NSAIDS, Dilaudid, methodone, nerontin, morphine sulfate and the Avinza is not only one I can tolerate and utlize but, it's most helpful pain medication that WORKS! Mind you, nothing eleviates the pain completely, but, it manages my multiple chronic pain to a tolerable level. As well as without major side affects (I'm allergic to sulfates). It works far better for pain management than even Oxycontin!

I was on codeine medications but could not tolerate side effects. I have been on Avinza 60mg per day for several years. I take it in the morning. It lasts all day but for the really bad breakthru pain. At those times I take MSIR Morphine sulfate immediate release-15mg. I find I can usually function all day on the Avinza. I can drive if I need to. Once I take the MSIR, I am in for the rest of the day. No driving or handing machinery, even the blender, is a no-no. The Avinza has the fewest side affects of any of the pain medications I have been prescribed. Read More Read Less

I have three bad discs in the thorasic area of my back. Dr put me on avinza 60 mg and it has returned a great deal of my activity. Does not work for brake out pain. And does not work for a full 24 hours. But it helps and does not make me feel all drugged up. Over all I would say it works very well.

I am on 370mg/day of Avinza. I am also taking Ultracet for breakthrough pain, skelaxin, and epidural injections every 3-4 months.I'm also on several other meds to treat depression from the chronic ongoing pain. I am diagnosed with Fibromyalgia,Ankylosing Spondylitis and have 4 herniated discs and 6 pinched nerves. Avinza has been a tremendous help. I love the fact that I can function very normally with no side effects to my state of mind.Unfortunately, the profuse sweating is a killer. I am in capri-pants and short sleeves when the weather is 50 degrees out in NY.My hair is constantly in ringlets which is embarrasing. But, the pain control is wonderful. So..I guess it's pain or sweat?? I also have the constipation but, if i take Miralax EVERY day, I'm fine. I've been on Humira and am going to start IV Remicade soon. I hate taking all these meds but, don't know how else to cope. Hope everyone feels better soon! Read More Read Less

I started taking Avinza(90 mg.) three weeks ago and it was ok. Then a 1 1/2 weeks ago they bumped it to 120 mg and it was still ok. So my doctor put me on Tordol to go along with it and with both of them working it seemed to help with 90% of pain relief. I have had no side effects with this medication and with other medications I have tried I used to sweat terrably. I would recommend to atleast give this medication a try if they are dealing with chronic back pain.

ok, started 2day and feel better ALREADY. i knew I was missing something in my regiment of meds, and this is it - a pain med that allows my enatural energy to come through, i actually get some BASIC things done (make the bed, swich the seasonal clothes around, cooka little, etc,) if i feelthe pain coming on, i supplement w.my meds and the recioie works forme thus far. am using my Juicer to have a glass of carrot juice, apple/pear juice, etc. daily. may as well 'walk the walk'. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH 8 RUPTURED DISCS AND MULTIPLE FRACTURES IN THE CERVICAL AND THORACIC SPINE FROM A FREAK ACCIDENT IN 2000. AFTER MULTIPLE (30+) PAIN BLOCKS AND EVERY PAIN MED IN THE BOOK (DEMEROL, VALIUM, PATCHES, 360MG OXYCONTIN) MY DR RX'D KADIAN 2 TIMES PER DAY AND THEN 12 MONTHS LATER AVINZA. MY DOSE WAS 180MG AT 6AM. AFTER 5 YEARS I WAS ABLE TO LOWER THE DOSEAGE TO 90 OVER 14 MONTHS OF TITRATING. I WENT THROUGH THE INITIAL DROP IN SEX DRIVE AND ENERGY AT 18 MONTHS OF 180MG. USED ANDRO GEL FOR A FEW MONTHS TO LEVEL OUT THE HORMONE. i ALSO TOOK RITILIN TO COUNTER THE SLEEPINESS. AT 36 MONTHS I WAS ABLE TO TITRATE ALL OTHER MEDS AND LATER DISCONTINUE ALL OTHER MEDS AND HAD NO BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. THE KEY TO THIS MED IS INCREASE AND TITRATE SLOWLY OVER TIME. 6-12 MONTHS IS NOT UNREASONABLE. DO NOT GET IN A HURRY TO CHANGE THE DOSE. IF ONE STILL HAS BREAKTHOUGH PAIN THEN THE DOSE IS PROBABLY TOO LOW. IT IS DIFFICULT TO BE PATIENT WHEN FINDING THE CORRECT DOSE AND RX FOR THE PROBLEM AND ONE'S BODY BUT I HAD AN UNDERSTANDING DR AND LOTS OF PATIENCE AND RESOLVE. I AM FORTUNATE TO WORK FULLTIME WHILE ON AVINZA AS AN IT COORDINATOR WITH HUGE RESPONSIBILITIES IN AN INTERNATIONAL COMPANY. MY MIND IS STILL VERY SHARP AND MY INJURY OR MEDICATION IS NOT NOTICIABLE BY ANYONE. MY WIFE AND LOVED ONES HAVE BEEN MY GUIDES THRU THIS JOURNEY. IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT, TO SAY THE LEAST, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PAIN WAS NOT CHECKED. REMEBER, LOVED ONES, MILD TO MEDIUM EXCERCISE, STAY CONNECTED, A STRONG WILL, HEALTHY DIET, PROPER MEDS AND A GOOD DOCTOR ARE ALL PART OF THE WINNING PLAN TO SURVIVE A CATOSTROPHIC ACCIDENT OR DISEASE. AVINZA WAS ONE OF THE INGREDIENTS THAT HELPED GIVE ME MY LIFE BACK.Read More Read Less

I take this medication for Chronic pain due to DDD on my back. I had back surgery in late 2007 that wound up being called a failed fusion as well as causing Perm nerve damage on one of my legs. I also have arthritis. This medication provides good baseline pain relief. I first took 30 mgs and recently was rxed 45 mg. I like it because it does not make me feel "drugged" or cause stomach upset. It does cause awful sweating though. Ick.

Compared to an equal dose of generic MSContin, Avinza seemed to me to have better quality control (less variation from pill to pill within a single perscription), and a more even release than MSContin. There are two downsides for me with Avinza. First is the inescapable constitpation for me with any morphine preparation. I have to go off of morphine cold turkey each week to clear out my constipation and it takes about twice as long for that to happen with Avinza versus MsContin. However, the withdrawal symptoms were worse with MSContin (the faster the release of morphine, the faster withdrawal symptoms come on). The second problem is price - as a name brand Avinza is more expensive under my insurance than the generic. Overall I prefer Avinza to MsContin; there is less up and down in the level of morphine in my body. For me Avinza is a smoother ride. This allows me to better handle my days as Avinza has better quality control than generic MSContin. I am less likely to have to change plans due to under or over medication as MSContin has more pill-to-pill variability than Avinza. And yes, I can feel the difference in morphine content from MSContin pill to pill. I am acutely aware of the amount of medication ,or lack thereof, in my body. The fact that I only have to take Avinza once a day has no bearing on my preference - that isn't important at all to me.Read More Read Less

I have spinal problems at L5, bones keep slipping out of place. I have been on AVINZA for 2 years and it has bad side affects on me. I have found out I get thin finger nails from it, Thin skin also. Lips peal very thin there, even with chap stick on them. I have altered taste and oil that makes my teeth get and hold on to stains. Also oil come through my skin, hair, urin also. For pain control it is not working well, but the DOC only has me on 30mg. 2 times a day. I was on 40mg. 4 times a day with oxycontin and norco 9 a day. It worked well. I was going to a differt Doc. for 6 years, but that DOC got out of giving pain meds. and only wanted to put in electric stimulaters or pain pumps, If this AVINZA works for you I am glad, I only get 8 hrs. of pain control at best. I also spend many nights up because I can not sleep. Due to pain. I am a male 6ft. and now only 125lbs. I have lost 55lbs. easy. Pain takes away my hunger.Read More Read Less

I have advanced prostate cancer and the bone pain was intense and everywhere. I was taking 30mg of time released ms-contin 2 X per day. I would experience pain at sometime during the day and would have to take additional ms-contin many days. No more with Avinza. The time release technology for this product is amazing. One 60 mg pill is al I need for the entire 24 hour period. The only drawback is it is not a generic so instead of paying a $10 deductible I'm paying a $35 deductible each month. It's worth it.Read More Read Less
