I'm Bipolar but also with an anxiety disorder. I go to the guidance center for treatment and they decided to stop prescribing Xanax ( and all medications like it, because of their addictive nature) even to those of us who truly need it and don't abuse it. As you can see I am not happy with their desicion. However, My dr. decided to put me on Vistaril 25 Mg X3 a day to combat my anxiety. The medica...
If your Dr. suggests this drug, walk out and go to a new Dr.;The Dr. here is a Veterinarian! Of all the choices, the person prescribing this should be ashamed and go back to school.

The effectiveness of Vistaril against anxiety for me seems to be mostly placebo. I only take it occasionally (around twice a week, although I've pretty much given up on it) and, due to its ineffectiveness, I've worked my way up to 200 mgs per dose, still with very little benefit. It doesn't make me sleepy. I also take 300 mg seroquel and 20 mg lamictal daily (for more than a year). It can be slightly reassuring to know I have Vistaril as a resource when anxiety is bad, but it seems to do very little. I don't take benzodiazepines. I have had much better success with inositol for anxiety. See my review on inositol on WebMD for more information.Read More Read Less

Drug worked at first, but then seemed not to work very effectively after a few dosages.

I've only recently been given this for isolated use during anxiety attacks, but so far, I'm pleased with the result. It works quickly, and doesn't linger in your system. I use it when I get upset to shorten the period of time I'm upset. I haven't experienced any side effects yet, but given my limited use, hopefully I won't.

I have had a lower back injury. Even after taking pain meds at bed time I would awake in the early AM hours due to minor pain. I tried various sleep aids over the years with no relief. My doctor prescribed this RX. It is very effective. Within a half hour I'm asleep and stay asleep all night. After many years I finally AM able to sleep through the night. I've noticed no side effects.

This medication made me extremely groggy and slow the next morning. The following day I took the medication earlier and was able to sleep for more than 12 hours. I felt great when I woke up and have no more itching/ allergies associated with allergic reaction.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and on bed rest for high blood pressure. I have had anxiety issues for a long time, and the complications have caused it to flare up. I was prescribed Vistaril, and while it does make me sleepy, I welcome that side effect because I have a hard time sleeping at night. I am prescribed 50 mg up to 4 times a day, and asked both my doctor and pharmacist if it is safe for a pregnant woman to take this medication. They both said it is safe in the second and third trimester. I wanted to write this review to reassure any other pregnant women who are prescribed Vistaril, because I had a very serious concern it my hurt the baby. As far as my anxiety goes, I feel much more relaxed, and worry less about my health issues. This helps keep my blood pressure low, so I am very happy to have this medication.Read More Read Less

For the first time in several years, I feel more in balance and in control of my emotions. The first two weeks were difficult, as it made me very drowsy. I was taking 50 mg daily for anxiety. Luckily, this side effect has disappeared, and I find myself in a more relaxed state with just 25 mg a day. I also feel I am able to react more positively in stressful situations, as well as feeling calm and collected in most situations. I usually take it when I start my shift, and am able to function normally, if not better, than before. I'm the happiest I've been in a number of years. I am using Vistaril with Celexa, it seems to be a life changing combination!Read More Read Less
