I suffer for over two years with chronic pain. None of the pain pills prescribe seem to make the pain bearable. I was refer to pain management. That was the best thing my doctors did. I explain the severe pain I was in. Felt as though, I refer to it as my little man who had my entire body in a vise from head to toe and squeezing my whole body with unbelievable force to the point of me staying in b...

My wife was a user of the Fentanyl patch for over ten years. It may have been effective in easing her pain but it also was the leading cause of her death. PLEASE, PLEASE, for your family, and yourself, check out the side effects of using this drug. If you experience ANY of the effects of this drug like, dizziness, fainting, nausea or hallucinations, let someone know right away, it may save your li...

This medication has been incredible. I suffered from 3 slip disks in my back for many years and finally asked for some help for the pain and insisted on something powerful like Fentanyl. I was granted the prescription and since then, I feel like a normal person again and no longer spend the majority of my time bed ridden or homebound. My side effects are severe itchiness, severe drowsiness coupled with brief seconds of dozing off but still somewhat awake and in those few seconds I tend to dream or hallucinate that things have been said to me or someone knocked at the door when they haven't, things like that. At first I also had trouble emptying my bladder but that seemed to have gotten better over time. I started with a large dose instead of a small one and working my way up, so that's probably why some of my side effect were quite severe. The pain management and how I feel while on this mediation outweighs the side effects overall. They're very minor compared to what I felt like before this medication was introduced. I'm no longer in agony so I'm quite happy with the results. Read More Read Less

I suffer with back problems ruptured disc,Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, bone spurs and a bone compressed against my spinal nerve. Due to heart failure and other heart problems I cannot have surgery to relieve any of this pain. I'm unable to walk at all, before i started on this drug i could not even tolerate sitting up. For an entire year i was confined laying on my left side to a hospital bed, I cried in pain at the slightest move i had to make. The pain was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life. Finally during a hospital stay after a failed attempt of suicide because I could not tolerate the pain anymore. A doctor tried me on Fentanyl along with Oxycodone and Gabapentin followed by an epidural of steroids every 6 months. This was like a miracle drug for me. I still cannot walk and have some pain but it is a level of pain i can live with (I no longer want to die because of the pain). But Fentanyl along with the other combination of drugs for breath through pain allows me to get out of bed for a couple hours a day to do things with my family. While my life will never be normal again I at least feel like I'm living not just existing. I don't understand those that say the side effects are too much, I will endure any side effects that reduce the amount of pain I was in. I read many that say the patch irritates their skin, be sure to use a different area when you change your patch. With keeping the patch on I just use some medical tape at the top and bottom of the patch and it stays in place just fine. Read More Read Less

I had a problem with the patch staying on but I soon became adept with the application. Also, the dosage had to be adjusted. It soon became smooth sailing and very effective. My quality of life was greatly improved.

The patch does not seem to last 3 days. I have to change every 2 days. Some brands do not really stay on very well. I have severe arthritis and have been using the 100 mcg for about 5 years now. It is not as effective as it used to be.

The patch that have used for over 7 years has been 75mcg/h. It was a transparent rectangular patch until recently the patch was not transparent but shinny foil looking color on the side sticking to my skin and a tanish pink looking on the other side. The new patch seems to take a lot longer to get into my system and not be as strong.

I went to the hospital yesterday for an lumpectomy on my right breast to take out breast cancer.. By the time I got to the hospital I had a severe migraine and I was vomiting.. The doctor gave me fentanyl threw an Iv and it was awful.. It did NOT take away the migraine.. It actually made it worse and it made me tired and uncomfortable on top of the migraine.. The migraine went away when I was in the recovery room after my surgery because they gave me an different pain medication!! I would NOT recommend taking Fentanyl for migraines/ headaches.. I lost my right leg below the knee in a motorcycle accident and because of severe stomach issue's I can't take pain pills. The patch works wonders! After using these patches for 14 years I have never had a problem. They stick fine for me and stay on after showering. I'm on the 100mcg/hr and get a thirty day supply at a time. I went to get my last script and had trouble with contacting the insurance company during the weekend and went through withdraws. Went to the emergency room and by that time I was spitting up blood and so I had to be admitted. Also, you will build up a tolerance to opiate pain meds and the effectiveness of the patch will diminish over time. One last thing, when I started the patches back in 2000, I had a real bad attitude problem that lasted for months on end which made it difficult for my caregivers. This subsided and now it's as if I never went through that difficult time.Read More Read Less

Having been on many other pain meds due to Psoriatic Arthritis, I was just most recently on Methadone which worked pretty well until I had EKG changes and GI issues. Now on 25mg every 3 days and it's not helping much. I found that it doesn't like to stick real well so according to the instructions I now use a Tagaderm see through bandage on it. It's completely clear and easy to put over the patch. Keeps it in place so I don't have to worry about it coming off.

Over 10 years of use -- helped my pain in amazing ways ! allowed to live again at 40 !!!! thank goodness --- I find huge issues with different brands ---- the original or duragesic is best with the gel ones coming in 2nd --- all others are up and down and questionable ? even if u see the ingredients -- one brand has 16.8 mg for the 100mcg while others have 10.0 for the 100 mcg -- so it is obvious they work differently ! --- I take this every 48 hours -- when I put new one on I remove the old one 6-8 hours later (at times longer) never too much and never withdrawals -- also take roxicodone 2 per day for breakthrough if needed -- if patch is the right brand and attatched perfect -- minimal b/t needed even after 10 plus years ! an amazing narcotic !Read More Read Less

I just started using the 12.5 mcg. patch for severe Fibromyalgia pain. I put on my second patch last night, and am just now beginning to get some pain relief from it. I use the Nexcare Tegaderm films to keep them on. Am using the Mylan brand. Unlike other posters, I was not on strong opiates prior to being put on this patch. For the past 13 months, my doctor had me on Hydrocodone 5/500, 3 x per day. That was not touching my pain at all. Not sure why my Rheumatologist switched me to the patch before trying stronger oral meds. Anyway, I am beginning to experience some pain relief, and I hope I can stick with the patches. My insurance won't pay for them, and I had to pay $180.00 for 10 patches. Have experienced some nausea, diarrhea, a few hives and some itching. Hope these side effects end soon, however, I think I could live with them forever, as long as some of my pain is alleviated.Read More Read Less

i took the patch for 2 brken ribs for 3 weeks and when i was finished i found that the next 3 nights I of trying to sleep I was restless and unable to get to sleep. I am assuming this is a withdrawal system and want to know how long it takes to leave your body and what alernative to take in the mean time. Joe Kennedy

I have been on the Fentanyl transdermal system patch now for the past 7 years. I was started out on the 25 mcg patch and now on the 75 mcg patch. It allows me to function better than anything else i have ever tried. i still get breakthrough pain for which i take a short term pain killer, but this drug works great ! only thing is , is that i would definitely lock them up in a lock box for storage because people on the street abuse them and when chewed they can KILL a person. i know this for a fact. so always treat them with the respect they deserve, but when used correctly as ordered they provide wonderful relief from chronic lower back pain, which i suffer from!Read More Read Less
