I have been taking Valium for a little over 20 years for insomnia, anxiety and PTSD. I take 5mg in the evening and 2.5 mg (1/2 tablet) as needed during the day. It works great, no side effects. I have stopped taking for brief periods and didnâ??t suffer withdrawal symptoms. I believe this is an effective medication, it helps me function and takes away the horrible feeling that is extreme anxiety. ...

I have been using Valium for almost 3 years, but I also tried Zanex for about 6 months. I preferred the Zanex, but I didn't want to get addicted. The Valium doesn't really help anymore. So I don't know what to do. I have Buspar as well, but it doesn't work at all. I'm very interested in finding out what I can do about this. I'm very interested to find out. I have tried to talk to my doctor and he ...

Took for 2 months for a back spasm. Although it helped with the pain, this medication made me extremely anxious. Tried stopping the drug and ended up with panic attacks and muscle spasms all over my body worse than the ones I started the drug for. Had to restart the drug and taper just to be able to function. Spent the next 4 months in absolute hell having panic attacks and severe body pain and ended up taking medical leave from my job to avoid getting fired. Worst drug ever!

I am paralyzed and have been taking this for my keg spasms for over 26 years, it is very effective and works the best for me. I cannot say enough how valium has helped me live my life over the years, no side effects and my body is not addicted to it.

I've been on two 10 mg tablets of diazepam per day for nearly 10 yrs for for Fibromyalgia, it works, but have found I now need a third dose, and the AM/PM does not cover the whole day. I've tried Lyrica, Neurontin is (gabapentin) they are much stronger, more addictive and have worse side effects. Valium or the generic form has none. I've been able to stop at any time, just have to put up with the muscle pain and mind fog that FMS causes. Tried some of the other drugs, they fogged the mind, or caused insomnia like Xanax did. They are also MORE addictive and you have to be weaned off them. They are also have more horrid side effects. 1 Lyrica tablet sent me to the ER because the pain it caused sent my BP to heart attack level. Took a week to get the crap out of my system. I'm surprised GAD (General Anxiety disorder, no panic attacks) is not included so I almost selected other. It works great, but I wish I had 5mg x 5 a day than 10mg twice a day, by night-time the effects are mostly gone and I have to resort on something else (sometimes zolpidem, sometimes Restoril, sometimes Atarax).

I've been taking the generic version of Valium called diazepam 10mg for probably 4 years now. I don't take it all the time only when I have consistent anxiety and it does help the awful closed throat, heavy heart feeling I get before I have an anxiety attack. The only problem is if I have a really bad panic attack it takes about 20 minutes to kick in and in those instances it's not quick enough. In general though this has been very effective to help calm me down with no real adverse side effects. This does not make me sleepy or groggy but I know some people that say it's a bit too much. Just watch it because it is a Benzo and it can be addictive. I only use it when I have to and haven't ever felt any withdrawal from starting and stopping as needed but that's not to say someone else wouldn't experience those not so pleasant symptoms listed as possible side effects. Just be cautious and use your better judgement while taking this.Read More Read Less

I took generic Valium and it did very little. It relaxed me some, but I still could not sleep and it was far from being the "relaxation drug" others told me it was. I think the brand name would have worked a lot better.

I do not seem to experience the same trouble with dry mouth as with other things I tried and none of the psychotic/hypnotic feelings from Lunesta. Libido seems to be making a comeback too.

Valium is the best benzo for long term, chronic anxiety and panic disorder. However, the hardest thing is if you ever have to stop it without switching to another benzo. The 2 side effects I had were the occasional headache associated with tiredness. Valium has the longest half life of any benzo and that is arguably why it is the hardest to stop after long term use. Be careful.

Have been taking valium on and off for many years, suffering from anxiety and recently muscle spasms. it works for both. having a hard time getting prescriptions, even from pain management doctors no side effects except drowsiness. One very important point -- generic does not work, and it's a shame I have to spend $250 to see a psychiatrist to receive it when I have no costs visiting my internist and pain mgmt. dr. but neither will prescribe.
