LOVE< LOVE< LOVE this medication! Got my life back! Have been on it for 13 years. Have SLE and suffered from joint pain and swelling, hair loss, fatigue, migraines, and other bad neurological symptoms, rash. Debilitating fatigue was the worst! Started feeling the medication working after 6 weeks, and took about 12 weeks for full effect. Took two 200mg tablets a day. Tried weening back to only one...

I have systemic Lupus...took Plaquenil with great relief over 10 years...then woke up one morning and left eye COMPLETELY BLIND. Eye surgeon diagnosed RUPTURED RETINA...little to no chance of saving any sight w/surgery, but might hopefully keep from having the eye REMOVED due to eye shrinking from ruptured retina. Surgery has brought back SOME sight...but little. RUN FROM THIS MEDICATION!!! I h...

I have mixed connective tissue disease with primary CREST scleroderma and I have histoplasmosis, so I can't take the usual meds. I had been in terrible pain that nothing was touching. Generic Plaquenil helped but caused terrible stomach and bowel cramping, bad nausea, and terrible smelly gas. My rheum changed me to the brand name and the bad cramps, nausea, etc., disappeared but now I have terrible watery diarrhea and my hair is falling out worse than ever. It did help my pain level but I don't know if it's worth it. I see my rheum again in 10 days and am wondering what've will do.Read More Read Less

I've been taking 400mgs of this medication for about 1 year. I didn't really have any intolerable RA symptoms before taking the medication. In the last 3 months (3 months after my last appointment with my rheumatologist) I've started experiencing significantly more discomfort and fatigue. Time to get back to the doctor I guess.

I was diagnosed with Lupus and started on Plaquenil about 5 weeks ago. I am only taking 300mg, but have found it pretty easy to tolerate. I am already starting to have a reduction in my symptoms. I have Serum Negative Lupus, but had many, many of the symptoms, including the Mylar Rash, fevers, swollen joints, mouth sores, etc.

I have been taking Plaquenil and the generic Hydroxichloriqin (spelling?)for around two years now. And I have been in remission since. I've had little hick ups some high fevers where I went to the hospital twice but all in all it's been great. People need to remember doing natural things, eating right, taking your vitamins and excersise play a big role the pill won't fix everything be good to your body!!

I began taking this medication on Aug.13 and on Sept 2 I had a very severe drug allergic reaction which put me in the hospital for two days. I don't feel this drug is safe to be on the market for purchase. The rash it gave me was over my entire face, body and my scalp. This was quite an horrific experience. My face was oozing with infection and swollen to the point to where I could not open my mouth enough to eat my food. Even though rashes was listed under drug reactions, however it did not say the rash would be that severe to which it interrupted my daily life. I have very intense itching to which I can't sleep or even function long enough to do my daily activities. I didn't notice any difference using this medication for my condition instead I have to recover for the next 6 months from my rash with hope that my original skin pigmentation will come back as normal as it can.Read More Read Less

I have been taking400mg of plaquenil for 4 months. Lately have been experiencing sore throat and lympnode swelling. I like the med, but am worried it is causing some other problem.

My husband has been on this medicine since Feb of this year and it has helped him. He is able to open bottles and milk jugs without any help now and is pain free most of the time. Has had stomach pain with this medicine but if he takes it with food that seems to be less of a problem.

I have been on this medicine for a few weeks now and so far it has really seemed to help with most of my symptoms! I am so glad that my rheumatologist prescribed it to me and took me off the awful steriods that caused terrible mood swings. I consider this medicine to be my saving grace.

Took a while to relate the side-effects to this drug since I am currently taking 14 different drugs. I was recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy and was told that the neuropathy was responsible for the pain I have in my feets and legs. Because I was told that the neuropathy was the problem I didn't think that the drug was the problem. Within 30-45 minutes of taking the drug my feet feel like they are on fire and being poked all over the bottom with a hot poker, non-stop! The pain also extends up my left calf, almost to my knee. The pain is 10/10 and Rx pain meds barely take the edge off. There are some nights when I spike a temperature to make me feel even worse. I eventually take something to make me sleep. I wake up feeling like I have been run over by a truck and start another day. Get ready and head out the front door to get breakfast and BAM! The pain starts again. I don't believe that this pain is caused solely by peripheral neuropathy, otherwise I wouldn't be getting a fever. I am stopping the hydroxychloroquine tonight and will report back on if I made a good decision!Read More Read Less

I've been on plaquenil for almost 6 years now. Although it took a few months for it to kick in - and during that time I still had to be on Prednisone. Once it did kick in I noticed an immediate difference in my inflammation and other lupus symptoms. I have not ONCE had a +ANA since starting the medication. Hence, my lupus labs have been SO stable! I don't have any side effects at all - of course about 6 months after starting the med, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia - which brings on a whole huge list of medications and problems that I've had to face. But regarding the lupus - I couldn't be happier with the plaquenil.Read More Read Less

After 6 months on the medication I got horrible bruises. It did not alleviate my hair loss, but I had just the one bad side-effect.
