Other Treatment

Herbal therapy for difficulty urinating caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), such as saw palmetto or beta-sitosterol, may be helpful. Talk with your doctor about how herbal therapy may be used in addition to medical treatment for BPH.

For information on transurethral treatment options, see the Surgery section of this topic.

Balloon dilation is no longer used to treat prostate enlargement, because it was found to be ineffective.
